Label co-head Solma has undertaken the task of captaining the first voyage of Virtual Forest Records, with a 4-track EP that will drown heads in clouds and shatter dancefloors with the same ease.

Starting things off softly, i915 invites you to lay back in an alien world inhabited by strange textures and fleeting sounds. Gentle synth melodies allow the unsuspecting listener to lower their guard, but the atmosphere becomes foreboding as more intense drums make their way into the evolving soundscape, paving the way for the next track of the release.

Conjuring another eerie soundscape, Utilman keeps its core rooted in trance aesthetics with an acid touch. With a confident 4x4 and breakbeat combo, this dancefloor-heavy cut will bring the temperature up a notch, be it as a warm-up heater or a peak-time roller.

The B-side completely forsakes the four-to-the-floor recipe to add a touch of electro to the mix. Supported by a solid drum pattern and volatile breakbeats, Void Update’s voice samples and nostalgic melodies fill a void that you never knew existed and find their ways into the toughest hearts for a deeply introspective experience.

To end this Motherboard EP with style, Learning Rate gives a glimpse into Solma’s darker side. Powerful drums and menacing basslines coexist with shimmering synth melodies in the purest trance style to create a maleficent atmosphere punctuated by hopeful feelings. This dangerous track is likely to stir a lot of trouble on the dancefloor and will definitely be a special weapon for any DJ with destructive tendencies.
